1.Introduction
Nova Practice (“Nova”, “we”, “us”) runs competitive Fortnite practice sessions (“scrims”), dropmaps and leaderboards through a website and a network of Discord servers. By signing in to the website, joining one of our servers or taking part in a session you agree to these terms and to the rules published in our servers.
If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
2.Eligibility
You must be old enough to use Discord under Discord's own terms in the country where you live, and you must follow Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines at all times.
Some divisions are invite-only or require qualification (for example, the Champion Division). Being able to see a server or a page does not mean you are entitled to join it.
3.Discord account requirement
Our website identifies you through Discord. To register for sessions, mark a dropmap spot, apply to join staff or submit an appeal you need to sign in with your own Discord account.
You are responsible for what happens under your account. Do not share it, and do not register for sessions under someone else's name.
4.Use of Nova Practice services
We give you a personal, non-exclusive permission to use our services for your own participation in the Nova community. You may not use them in a way that harms them, other users or the people who run them.
- Do not attempt to access data or features you have not been given access to.
- Do not automate the website or the bot in ways that put unreasonable load on them.
- Do not interfere with registrations, dropmaps or leaderboards.
5.Community rules
Each server has its own rules, published in the server. Session rules (for example, rules about pushing, rotating or landing in other teams' spots) are set by staff for each session type and may be updated. It is your responsibility to read and follow them before you play.
Staff may add or change rules when needed to keep sessions fair. Rules that apply during a session apply from the moment the session starts.
6.Scrims and competitive sessions
Scrims are practice sessions run by staff. Lobby sizes, start times, number of games, scoring and the way results are calculated are decided by staff and may differ between sessions and divisions.
Results are produced from game data processed through our tournament tooling and may be corrected by staff if an error is found. Sessions can be delayed, shortened, restarted or cancelled when circumstances require it.
Placement on a session leaderboard can make a player eligible for a higher division (for example, the top 10 of a session may qualify for the Champion Division). Eligibility is based on the final results of a session and is confirmed by staff.
7.Registrations
You register for a lobby through the registration channel on Discord. A registration is personal to you. Lobbies have a maximum size, and registration may close earlier if the lobby fills up.
- Some lobbies are limited to members who hold particular roles, and some roles may be allowed to register earlier than others.
- If you cannot play, unregister before the unregister deadline shown for the lobby. Late or repeated unregistrations may lead to action by staff.
- Staff may add or remove registrations where needed, for example to fill a lobby or to remove someone who is not allowed to play.
8.Dropmap system
Registered players can mark a landing spot on their lobby's dropmap. Marking a spot that another team has also marked creates a contest. Staff may move, remove or reassign marks and may lock the map at any time. Once the map is locked or a final map is posted you must stay at the spot you were given.
Marks are only meant to be placed by the player they belong to. Attempting to place or change marks for someone else, or to get around the rules of the map, is not allowed.
9.User conduct
Treat other players and staff with respect. We do not tolerate harassment, hate speech, threats, doxxing, spam, advertising or sharing content that is illegal or inappropriate.
Follow staff instructions in sessions. Disputes should be raised calmly with staff in the relevant channel rather than in public chat.
10.Prohibited activities
- Cheating, using exploits or third-party software that gives an unfair advantage.
- Teaming with other teams, stream-sniping or leaking lobby information (including custom game codes).
- Trying to avoid a punishment, for example by using alternate accounts.
- Impersonating staff or other members.
- Manipulating results, registrations or the dropmap.
- Attempting to break into, overload or reverse-engineer our website or bot.
11.Suspensions, mutes and bans
If you break these terms or our rules, staff may warn you, mute (time out) you, remove you from a lobby or session, ban you from one or more servers, or restrict your access to the website. Bans and mutes can be temporary or permanent depending on what happened.
Actions taken by staff are recorded in our moderation records so that decisions can be reviewed.
12.Appeals
If you believe a ban or mute was a mistake you can submit an appeal through the Appeals page on the website. Appeals are reviewed by staff, who may approve or deny them and may ask for more information.
Submitting an appeal does not guarantee a particular outcome, and submitting false information in an appeal can lead to it being denied.
13.Staff decisions
Staff make decisions about registrations, session conduct, results, punishments, applications and appeals. We try to apply the rules consistently and fairly, and decisions can be raised through the appeals process or with senior staff.
Because sessions are run by volunteers and a small team, staff decisions made during a session are generally final for that session.
14.Third-party platforms
Our services depend on and link to third-party platforms, including Discord, Epic Games and Fortnite, Yunite (which we use to run tournaments and calculate results), and social platforms such as Twitter/X, Twitch, YouTube and Patreon. Those platforms have their own terms and privacy policies, which apply when you use them.
Nova Practice is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Epic Games.
15.Discord integration
When you sign in with Discord you allow our website to see the information described in our Privacy Policy. Our Discord bot manages roles, channels and messages in our servers — for example, giving you the role for the lobby you registered for and removing it when you unregister.
Roles and permissions given by the bot depend on your registration and on your standing in the community, and can be changed or removed by staff.
16.Availability of services
We aim to keep the website, bot and sessions available, but they may be unavailable from time to time because of maintenance, problems at Discord, Yunite or our hosting, or other reasons outside our control. We do not promise that the services will be uninterrupted or error-free.
17.Changes to features
We may add, change or remove features, divisions, session formats and the way leaderboards or qualification work at any time, for example to improve sessions or to keep them fair.
18.Intellectual property
The Nova Practice name, logos, website design and the content we create belong to us or our licensors. Fortnite and related names and imagery belong to Epic Games. You may not copy or reuse our branding or content in a way that suggests it comes from us without our permission.
19.User-submitted content
You are responsible for what you submit, such as application answers and appeal text. By submitting content you allow us to store and use it to operate our services — for example, to let staff review an appeal or application.
Do not submit content that you do not have the right to share, that is untrue or that is unlawful.
20.Disclaimer
Our services are provided “as is” and “as available”. Sessions are for practice and entertainment. We make reasonable efforts to run them well, but we cannot promise any particular result, ranking, qualification, prize or uninterrupted availability.
21.Limitation of liability
Nova Practice is a community service run by volunteers. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that arise from your use of, or inability to use, our services, such as lost progress, missed sessions or errors in results. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under law that cannot be limited.
22.Termination
You can stop using our services at any time by leaving the servers and signing out. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or the rules, or if we need to protect the community or the services. Parts of these terms that are meant to continue (for example, about moderation records) continue after that.
23.Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they were last changed. If you keep using our services after a change you accept the updated terms. For significant changes we will try to tell the community in our servers.
24.Contact
If you have questions about these terms, contact the Nova Practice staff team through our Discord server.
